I have had many positive experiences with Alpha Smart 2000, 3000 and the NEO. I hope that some of you might add to this information.

Things I like about the NEO:

  • Eight different students can use one NEO
  • There are 387 lessons for elementary, middle and high school
  • Lessons may be edited or created
  • The lessons may be used for whole class work
  • Use lessons to collaborate with staff and send to a friend
  • Copy and paste lessons and print them out for students to have as visual aid
  • Download the lessons to use as a reference.
  • The students may use a personal password
  • The NEO keyboard commands are built in for quick lookups
  • CoWriter is a word prediction program that may be added
  • CoWriter has vocabulary topics that may be added to your NEO
  • Portability and durability
  • Excellent technical support
  • The manual is easy to understand
  • Battery life is 700 hours
  • Only 3 double AA batteries

Things I do not like about the NEO:

  • You can only add eight lessons at a time to the device,
  • Alpha Smart 3000 with Co Writer does not include lessons
  • The applet downloads are easy but they are time consuming
  • I did not learn that much from the webinars
  • The USB cables are often misplaced. Buy three cables.

Other: Different companies have software word processing programs that are used with computers. Ask me about these programs if you are interested.
