NLMAA Scholarship

NLMAA Scholarship Requirements:

Scholarship Award Applicant Criteria:

(a) Scholarship Award applicants must be enrolled in a college, university, including 2-year colleges, or vocational schools that lead to an associate’s degree or equivalent certification.

(b) Scholarship Award applicants must be graduating senior of either one of the High Schools (El Camino High School, John Glenn High School, La Mirada High School, Norwalk High School) or the Norwalk-La Mirada Adult School of the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District.

(c) Scholarship Award applicant must NOT be considered “immediate family” to any member awarding scholarships, the School Board of the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District or an individual contributor or donor to the funds of the Association. “Immediate family” shall be defined as: the mother, father, brother, sister, stepparent, grandmother, grandfather or grandchild of referenced person or of the spouse of the referenced person, and the spouse, son, son-in-law, daughter, daughter-in law, stepchild of the referenced person or any relative living in the immediate household of the referenced person.

(d) Scholarship Award applicants that are the sibling of another Scholarship Award applicant may concurrently apply if all other eligibility requirements have been met.

Scholarship Award Criteria:
(a) Scholarly Competence: GPA, SAT, or ACT scores may not necessarily disqualify an applicant from being awarded a scholarship.

(b) Quality of Written Application: The application must exemplify character traits of honesty, concern for social justice, collaboration with people and respect for diversified cultures. Applicant must convey a desire to truly study and learn.

Scholarship Award Recipient Duties & Responsibilities:
(a) If the applicant has been awarded a scholarship and has taken receipt of the general monetary award and, without reason, decides not to study as planned, the scholarship must be returned in full. If time permits, an alternate applicant may be awarded that same scholarship.

(b) Upon receipt of the general monetary award, recipients are encouraged to contact the Association via email at nlmaa@nlmusd.org to inform the Association of their post-secondary educational pursuits. This information will be used to update all Association members of the positive contributions that their scholarship awards have been making in the community and the lives of those recipients.

General Award:
(a) The Norwalk-La Mirada Administrator’s Association shall award a general monetary award based on various criteria set forth in this document to two (2) candidates from each of the High Schools (El Camino High School, John Glenn High School, La Mirada High School, & Norwalk High School).

(b) Similarly the Norwalk-La Mirada Administrator’s Association shall award a general monetary award based on various criteria set forth in this document to two (2) candidates from the Norwalk-La Mirada Adult School.
