The district’s Language Assessment Center is located at Los Alisos Middle School, where it serves all of the schools in our district. The center’s primary function is to test new students that speak a language other than English as indicated on the Home Language Survey. Students are tested within 30 days of enrollment to determine their level of English and primary language Spanish proficiency. The information is recorded in the students’ Language fluency folders that are sent to the schools to assure appropriate placement in compliance with state and federal mandates. Families are interviewed to determine their needs and students qualification for other district services such as Migrant, Refugee and McKinney-Vento Programs.
The annual Reclassification Process is also conducted by the staff and the results of CELDT and annual reviews of English Learners’ progress are shared with the home schools and parents.
