Eastwood School is beaming with pride. Our instructional program is designed to touch the hearts and minds of our students and community. We believe that all students can reach great educational heights and that it is our responsibility to create a learning environment that allows all students to soar. Our highly qualified teachers work collaboratively with grade level teammates to create a standards-based instructional program that is filled with enrichment experiences for all students. Teachers flock to training and take advantage of every opportunity to grow as expert educators. Our goal is to meet the needs of the students by delivering a balanced instructional program that includes clear objectives, teacher modeling, guided student practice, and supported independent application of skills, strategies, and concepts. Enter our doors and you will see students engaged during whole group lessons, eagerly sharing ideas and responding to open ended questions. You can observe students working cooperatively in small groups as they strive to solve a problem and chart their solution or at the computer researching a self-selective area of study. Parent volunteers will be reading and conferring with students and La Mirada High School Apple students will be tutoring. You will definitely see students learning with self-confidence and zeal.

We provide our students with many authentic reasons to read and write as we bring learning to life through study trips and guest presenters. Museum visits, attending live performances at the Cerritos Performing Arts Center and the La Mirada Civic Center, 3rd grade city hall and library visits, 4th grade Sacramento trip, and 5th grade science camp are learning experiences that strengthen our instructional program.

Our entire learning community values and celebrates learning. We have fantastic responses to our Family Math, Reading and Science Nights. Students and parents of all grade levels attend the 5th grade African Drums and Dance assembly. And on our Campus Beautification Day, our staff, students, families and friends join in to clean, paint and garden. Each year ends with Field Day and International Day. Teachers and the many hard working PTA volunteers plan these annual events. They are grand traditions that highlight the skills and talents of our students.

Being part of our community is important to our school. Students and families generously give their time and resources to support others. Letters to US Troops campaign, pull top collection for donation of household supplies for Ronald McDonald House are some of the charity events we participate in. The City of La Mirada was so impressed with our donations to Toy for Tots that they honored us with the La Mirada Volunteers in Action Award.

Caring for our families and community leads Eastwood School to build the best instructional program for each student. We want all of our Eastwood Eagles to soar high throughout their lives.
