Thanks to Della Robertson of the Millennium Project, our AP Biology students genetically barcoded 16 tissue samples collected from rock fish. Athalie Caro, Lauren D'Lucas, Gisselle Delfin, and Roxy Dulay went to Coastal Marine Biolabs and learned how to edit nucleotide sequences. This lab's goal is to identify all species of life on earth by sequencing a 650 base pair region of a mitochondrial gene that codes for a subunit of an enzyme involved in cellular respiration. DNA barcodes are at the BOLD (Barcode of Life Database) at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. Congratulations! Click title for sample pictures and reports. DISCLAIMER: This opportunity was made possible through the Barcoding Life's Matrix program, a science innovation project hosted by Coastal Marine Biolabs with funding support from the National Science Foundation (DRL-1030083).
