Dr. Roberto “Rob” Cancio joined the Board of Education in 2021, holding various committee memberships, including California School Board Assembly Delegate, representing 31 school districts across Los Angeles County with other Delegates across the state; before becoming Vice President of the school board in the end of 2024. Under his guidance, NLMUSD has increased the total dollars received from grants, initiated successful financial strategies addressing deficits, and increased student program success.
A committed leader in Norwalk-La Mirada, Dr. Cancio focuses on accelerating student achievement, ensuring school safety, and balancing budgets.
Dr. Cancio is a published scholar, Navy veteran, former educator, and business executive with extensive experience in data analytics. He currently serves as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Raised in Norwalk, he attended Moffitt Elementary, Dolland Elementary, Hutchinson Middle School, La Mirada High School, and Southeast Military Academy. Post-military service, he pursued higher education, earning degrees from East Los Angeles College (A.A.), University of California, Berkeley (B.A.), and the University of Miami (M.A. and Ph.D.), coupled with certifications from Harvard University, the University of Florida, and Loyola Marymount University. Currently, Dr. Cancio is pursuing a master’s in business at the University of Southern California.
Dedicated to community service, he holds leadership roles in local organizations such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, American Legion, and Norwalk Kiwanis Club.
