The Los Angeles County Committee on School District Reorganization unanimously passed a resolution adopting By-Trustee areas for Board of Education elections beginning in 2024 for the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District. The public hearing was held in the Board Room of NLMUSD on April 3, 2023.
The County Committee was given a presentation by the District and its partner in the By-Trustee transition, National Demographics Corporation. The County Committee members asked questions of the District and discussed the proposed map, as well as received overwhelming positive feedback from community members. At the conclusion of their discussion, the County Committee praised the District for engaging the public in the process and lauded the District for the fairness of the proposed map. The County Committee then unanimously approved the District’s proposed map.
The County Committee’s approval of the map is the final step in the process of transitioning from at-large elections to trustee area map elections. In November, 2024, the District will begin holding trustee area elections in which voters in each trustee area will vote for one candidate to represent their trustee area.
