Benton Middle School Receives $5,000 Grant for Visual and Performing Arts Resources

“This grant will help expand activities in our visual and performing arts programs, and will give our students more opportunities to follow their passion,” Benton Principal Michael Gotto said. “Thank you to Assemblymember Calderon for your support, and to the Barona Tribe of Mission Indians for your dedication to our students’ education.”

Benton is a visual and performing arts (VAPA) magnet school, with a curriculum that includes media art, studio art, photography, drama, stagecraft, band, orchestra, piano, guitar, choir, dance and video production.

“Our District is dedicated to supporting our students’ interests and helping them find a career pathway that supports their goals,” NLMUSD Superintendent Dr. Hasmik Danielian said. “Benton provides a rigorous curriculum for our visual and performing arts students to strengthen their talents.”

The Barona Band of Mission Indians created the education grant to assist California schools in acquiring technology upgrades and to provide additional support and resources.

“This grant will help to enhance the visual and performing arts activities that our students participate in on a daily basis,” NLMUSD Board of Education President Karen Morrison said. “I look forward to what our students will create with the help of the grant.”
