In an effort to best utilize its assets, the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District is forming what is referred to as a "7 -11 Committee" to review the Excelsior High School property. If you would like to participate and are qualified, we invite you to apply to be a member of the Committee.
The purpose of the Committee will be to review the Excelsior High School property to determine whether to designate portions of it as "excess" or "surplus" because it will not be needed for school purposes and to make recommendations regarding future development. The Committee will present a report to the Board of Education recommending uses/disposal of the surplus property. This is an important task and the District is looking for highly-qualified, capable, and committed individuals to be members of the Committee.The Committee must have between seven and eleven community members representative of one or more of the following:
- Ethnic, age group and socioeconomic composition of the district;
- Business community, such as store owners, managers, or supervisors;
- Landowners or renters, with preference to be given to representatives of neighborhood associations;
- Parents of Students;
- Persons with expertise in environmental impact, legal contracts, building codes, and land use planning, including, but not limited to, knowledge of the zoning and other land use restrictions of the cities or cities and counties in which surplus space and real property is located.
Committee Meetings and Timeline
In accordance with Governor Newsom’s Executive Order N-29-20, and to prevent the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) by practicing social distancing, the meeting of the Committee will be conducted virtually. Meeting dates and times will be established by the Committee. It is expected that three meetings will be needed.
Committee meetings will be open to the public. Committee members are expected to attend all meetings.
7-11 Committee Membership Recruitment and Application
Members of the Committee serve only on a voluntary basis. The attached recruitment packet includes the application for serving on the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District 7 – 11 Committee and a summary of Conflict of Interest Law for Real Property.
The application submittal deadline is June 30, 2020, at 4:00p.m.
