Hello and welcome to Center Stage at DD Johnston Elementary School!
My name is Mrs. Mayra Hernandez and this is my fourth year working for the program. I graduated from California State University, Dominguez Hills in 2009 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies and a Minor in Math. Previously, I received an Associates Degree in Child Development from Compton Community College where I graduated with High Honors in 2005. During and after my college education, I worked as a teacher’s aide at an elementary school, and then, at a middle school’s main office as an enrollment clerk for the Long Beach Unified School District.
I was born and raised in Mexico, but at the age of 14, my family and I immigrated to the United States. I am an English Language Learner and the first in my family to have pursued a college degree. During the course of my education, due to the lack of English Language, I endured many obstacles which I solved with hard work, positive attitude and discipline.
I believe in success as well as in every child and I am here to help them become the best they can be. I love my job and enjoy working with students because they are raw diamonds that we can shape into precious stones.
I am an organized and hard working person who puts a great effort into preparing lesson plans and researching new strategies to keep students focused and interested.
My hobbies include hiking, jogging, cooking, shopping, traveling, and spending quality time with my family.
I look forward to a great and successful new school year!
