Hasmik Jasmine Danielian, Ed.D
Dr. Hasmik J. Danielian is an accomplished educator with over three decades of experience who currently serves as superintendent of the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District, a K-12 system of 30 campuses and more than 18,000 students.
Through Dr. Danielian’s passionate leadership and commitment to excellence, the district is continuing to expand and improve its academic programs and opportunities that focus on high-quality teaching and learning, research-based best practices and college and career readiness.
At NLMUSD, Dr. Danielian’s leadership has resulted in the creation of a shared vision of success not only through collaboration with the Board of Education, but also with all other stakeholders including the unions, parents and the local community. She also strives to build institutional capacity through professional development and other leadership training opportunities that help empower the staff.
One of her landmark goals for the district is to create more equity and access regarding educational facilities and instructional technology. She oversees a $375 million, multi-year capital improvement bond measure and, as part of her Future Ready Technology Blueprint for the district, NLMUSD has formed a partnership with the Sprint Corp. The partnership will provide high school students with free internet hotspot devices that feature high-speed wireless service.
Several NLMUSD campuses, teachers and students have won prestigious academic honors and competitions during her tenure, including California Distinguished Schools, Gold Ribbon Schools, Golden Bell Award, National PTA School of Excellence, Project Lead the Way (PLTW) National Distinguished School, PLTW National and California Teachers of the Year, Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year and California Streaming Digital Student Photography.
Before joining NLMUSD in 2015, Dr. Danielian successfully served for nearly four years as superintendent of the Brawley Union High School District in Imperial County. She helped the district win various state and national accolades, including the namesake campus earning recognition as one of the “Best High Schools in the United States” and twice winning the state Civic Learning Award of Excellence.
Prior to that, she served as an associate superintendent in charge of secondary schools at the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District where she initiated a series of system reforms that centered on data-driven decision-making and staff support — resulting in significant improvements in student achievement.
Dr. Danielian began her career in education in 1988 as a teacher at the Glendale Unified School District where she later served as a principal at a middle school and high school that each won multiple academic awards.
In regard to academic accomplishments, Dr. Danielian earned her bachelor’s degree in English language and literature from the University of Iran in Tehran. She holds two master’s degrees — in bilingual education from the University of La Verne and curriculum and supervision from Point Loma Nazarene University.
She received her doctorate in urban education leadership from the University of Southern California. Her dissertation on data-driven decision-making received honorable mention from the Rossier School of Education.
Dr. Danielian has served as an adjunct faculty member at Azusa Pacific University, USC and Glendale Community College. She was also a commissioner and committees chair for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and has served on several local foundation and nonprofit boards.
Dr. Danielian resides in Glendale with her husband, Arsen Danielian, an immigration attorney. The couple have two adult children and three grandchildren.
