District Advisory Committee
By order of the Board of Education and pursuant to Education Code sections 17387 et. seq., the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District may appoint an Advisory Committee to provide informal recommendations to the Board regarding the development of former school sites commonly known as Chavez Elementary and El Camino High School properties.
The Committee must be between 7 and 11 members and have the following representatives:
- District ethnic, age group or socioeconomic composition;
- Business community member;
- Landowner/renter;
- Teacher;
- Administrator;
- Parent;
- Expert in environmental impact, legal contracts, building codes and land use planning.
The District advertised and accepted applications for membership on the Committee through November 3, 2023.
Members
The District received 15 applications which were reviewed by staff. Staff recommended the following persons to be on the Committee:
- Armando Armendarez: District ethnic, age group or socioeconomic composition,
- Martha Jauregui: District ethnic, age group or socioeconomic composition,
- Sonia Linares: Business Community Member,
- Gema Rodriguez: Landowner/Renter in Norwalk,
- Janet Kang: Parent,
- Fernando Salazar: Parent,
- Carlos Barajas: Teacher,
- Jennifer Amador: Teacher,
- Dr. Marco Sanchez: Administrator,
- Dr. David Olea: Administrator, and
- Elizabeth Jaimes: Expert in environmental impact, legal contracts, building codes and land use planning.
The Board of Education approved the Committee Members at their regularly scheduled Board Meeting on December 11, 2023.
