School Safety
"Providing Services Based on a
Commitment to Education and Safety"
One of our highest priorities is the safety and security of our students. Our schools regularly hold drills to ensure that all students, teachers and staff are prepared for emergencies. This letter will inform you of some of the safety protocols at our schools and how can you can to stay informed in the event of an emergency. What happens during an emergency?
- Earthquake – Students will drop, cover and hold on until the shaking stops. Depending on the magnitude of the quake, it may be necessary to evacuate buildings.
- Fire – Students will perform an orderly evacuation.
- Lockdown - School administrators will secure the campus by closing and locking classroom doors and campus gates. No one will be permitted to enter or exit the campus until school administrators give an all-clear signal. If there is immediate danger, teachers will stop lessons, close window blinds, turn off lights and direct students to a secure area of the classroom or building.
- Medical emergency – School administrators will call 911 immediately if the injury is life threatening or deemed serious.
Students may be kept on campus.
Public safety officers may instruct schools to keep students on campus, even after school hours, in the event of an immediate danger to health and safety.
- Students will only be released to an adult who has been identified as a parent, guardian or emergency contact on your student’s Emergency Card. It is important that you complete this card at the beginning of every school year and update it as needed.
- Schools are prepared to provide food, water and any medications listed on your child’s medication record.
- If you speak with your children via cell phone, remind them of the importance of following directions from teachers and public safety officials.
