Stanford Tobacco - Healthy Futures Program

Healthy Futures provides an Alternative to Suspension curriculum tailored to students who have violated anti-nicotine and smokeless tobacco policies. The curriculum integrates motivational interviewing principles to address all key issues related to nicotine and smokeless tobacco usage by students. The program offers a comprehensive approach to educating students on the harmful effects of using e-cigarettes, vapes, hookah, and other similar products, while also providing them with a safe and supportive environment to learn.

INDEPTH

Intervention for Nicotine Dependence: Education Prevention, Tobacco and Health (INDEPTH) provides a helpful alternative to suspension or citation for schools and communities to address the increasing issue of teenage vaping. It is an interactive program that educates students on nicotine dependency, encourages the adoption of healthier alternatives, and helps them overcome the unhealthy addiction that led to disciplinary action

Youth Development & Mentoring Program

Goals for Life - (Grades 6-12+)

The Goals for Life Mentoring Program is an educational initiative aimed at developing the youth in partnership with the NLMUSD. The program is designed to teach young people who may be struggling academically, behaviorally, or using tobacco products, the necessary skills and strategies for success in life. The program is delivered by certified staff and former professional basketball and football players who have been trained to deliver a comprehensive curriculum in public schools.

Friday Night Live Program - LACOE (Grades 6-9)

Friday Night Live (FNL) aims to tackle the underlying reasons that lead students to disengage from their schools. It works towards creating and sustaining a positive school environment while also fostering partnerships for promoting positive and healthy youth development. FNL encourages and empowers young people to become active leaders and resources in their communities.

National Tobacco Prevention - School Activities

RED RIBBON WEEK - (District-Wide)

The Red Ribbon Week is celebrated during the last week of October every year. It is a symbol of commitment to celebrating a drug-free life and a healthy future. Students create art, decorate the school with red ribbons, and do activities throughout the week.

GREAT AMERICAN SMOKE-OUT DAY (GRADES 6-12)

Every year on the third Thursday of November, smokers nationwide participate in the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout. The date is used to help them plan to quit or support someone else in quitting that day. The event challenges individuals to stop using tobacco and educates them about the various resources available to help them quit smoking for good.

KICK BUTTS DAY (GRADES 6-12)

Kick Butts Day is an annual event aimed at increasing awareness about tobacco issues and advocating for a tobacco-free future for the next generation.

LOSE THE CHEW DAY (GRADES 6-12) 

Lose the Chew is an annual event that promotes healthy habits by encouraging students and community members to avoid chewing tobacco. Students participate by making posters, decorating the school, and sharing information about the negative effects that chewing tobacco can have on the body.
